Barcelona eye shock move for Manchester United defender

Barcelona are considering a shock move for Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian according to Mundo Deportivo. The Spanish giants want the Italian as a back up for Jordi Alba as per the report.

However, he is not the first choice on the list to add more competition for Alba as the likes of Junior Firpo and David Alaba are the above him right now.

The Catalan club splashed £107 million on signing Griezmann, and do not have the necessary funds to get the deal done for either of their first-choice targets.

Due to this, Barca are considering a move for Darmian, as he will be a cheaper option for them. The former Torino player only has one year left on his contract and he is way down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The Italian can operate on both right and left-wing. He will be allowed to leave the club for less than £9 million before the Premier League transfer window closes next month.

The Catalan side were also linked with a move for Manchester United‘s Victor Lindelöf earlier this summer. He was seen as the alternative for Matthijs De Ligt but that interest has cooled down.

Rumour Checker: 6/10

While Mundo Deportivo isn’t the most reliable source, they have been spot on with a lot of transfer rumours before. This might be one of them as well and Barca need to sign a backup for Alba this summer.
