Steven Gerrard rejects chance to manage Premier League club

Steven Gerrard has rejected an approach by Newcastle United according to reports in the United Kingdom. The Liverpool legend is currently in charge of the Rangers in the Scottish Premier League and is reportedly keen on staying.

The Toons are on the hunt for a new manager after they decided not to extend the contract of Rafa Benitez. The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Chelsea manager has now moved to the Chinese Super League and taken over at Dalian Yifang.

Newcastle United have been linked with a lot of managers recently, including Jose Mourinho. The former Manchester United manager distanced himself from the job and made it clear that he did not want to join a club that is happy finishing 7th in the league.

Former Watford boss, Quique Sanchez Flores, Mikel Arteta, Roberto Martinez, David Moyes and Garry Monk have also been linked with the vacant managerial post at Newcastle United.

John Terry is the latest one to be linked with the Newcastle job but the Chelsea legend has just signed a new deal at Aston Villa. Gianfranco Zola has left Chelsea this month and it would not be a surprise if he is linked with the post as well.

Gerrard was linked with the then-vacant role at Derby County as well. Frank Lampard had just agreed a deal with Chelsea and the Championship side were reportedly keen on Gerrard but he rebuffed the move.
